Postcard to Japan
I have two very dear friends from Japan, who have taught me so much about Japanese culture and also brought me lovely gifts, my favourite being beautiful paper! I actually wanted to use a piece of rice paper as background on which my friend Yuka wrote my name in Japanese, but could not find it last night - much to my dismay! So here is my entry for the Oriental challenge over at Three Muses today.

Queen of desserts
I think a fancy treat like this deserves a crown! The true origin of the blanc-mange is obscure, but it is believed that it was a result of the Arab introduction of rice and almonds in early medieval Europe. All the images used are from Graphics Fairy - linking to Brag Monday.

Gathering fish
I love words and especially learning new ones - did you know that a yaffle was an armful of dried or nearly dried salt fish - the amount that could be comfortably carried under one arm. It was also used as a verb, as in to take up an armful of fish. It also had a more general usage as a verb, referring to the work of spreading, gathering and piling fish. Red hot chilli peppers
In case you didn't know . . . . the cayenne pepper - also known as the Guinea spice, Cow Horn Pepper, aleva or bird pepper or, especially in its powdered form, red pepper - is a hot, red chilli pepper used to flavour dishes and for medicinal purposes. Named for the city of Cayenne in French Guiana, it is a cultivar of Capsicum annuum related to bell peppers, jalapeƱos, and others. My entry for Three Muses hot hot hot challenge.

Guns 'n roses
I am not 100% back with all guns blazing, but I have something to share. I wanted to use this gun since the first time I saw it over at the Graphics Fairy - now that could sound strange if you were not looking at the picture ;-)

I am happy to report that my daughter is doing very well after her surgery, but we are still taking this week off to fully recover, also enjoying the last week of school holiday and the World cup soccer.

Violet - green
When in doubt, use green - that's my motto! . . .and then combine it with purple ;-) I googled "violet-green" this morning and discovered that it is the name of a beautiful small North American swallow, had I known this last night that little swallow would have been sitting right there on the frame. I am entering this for Theme Thursday's challenge this week - the colour green.

The Young Victoria
Karen from the graphics fairy posted this black and white ornate frame with an image of queen Victoria some time ago, and I immediately thought of using it with this picture of a young queen Victoria, which I think is quite a beautiful picture. I added the roses for a pop of colour, I only found out today the queen Victoria rose is a mauve coloured rose. I have not seen the movie yet, hopefully some time soon.

Tea anyone?
I love this quote from Alice in Wonderland, so funny!
"Of all the silly nonsense, this is the stupidest tea party I've ever been to in all my life"
